Molosser dogs are suggested to have been brought by ancient Phoenicians in the territory of Britain but a famous commander Guy Julius Caesar wrote about extraordinarily big and strong dogs in his memorials and these dogs participated together with Anglo-Saxon military forces in the battle against Roman legionaries.

Similar recollections about dogs-soldiers are characterized by excellent physical abilities and ferocity bear a date from the middle of I century A.C. These dogs, later used by ancient Romans for involvement in demonstrational battles in gladiatorial arenas, achieved victory over large raptorial animals- bears and lions.

The remains of such dogs were discovered by archeologists during diggings in many settlements in the territory of coastal areas of Baltic and North Sea.
