Jaws of Rottweiler

The pincers (direct) bite is among the defaults that may be observed in Rottweilers during examination. Overshot and undershot bites are deformities too. Pincers bite is characterized by upper and lower incisors bearing against each other. Such disposition of Rottweiler’s teeth may cause abrasion of their edgy surfaces. Usually the direct bite can be seen in those cases when incisors are stooped incorrectly or lower jaw has a very prolate shape.

Overshot bite is when incisors of upper jaw do not adjoin the incisors of lower jaw. At that it is a big, well noticeable interval between the jaws of Rottweiler. Upper tushes on the contrary adjoin the lower ones very well and that involves their fast abrasion (brygmus) from the back.

If overshot bite is well defined then the lower tushes abut directly on the palate causing damages of soft parts. But if overshot bite is insignificant then provided that Rottweilers are young it is possible to correct this defect by massaging lower jaw and the diet including nutritional ingredients must be prescribed to the dog.
Malformations of Rottweiler’s jaws: а – overshot bite; б – undershot bite

Undershot bite is when Rottweiler’s incisors go far beyond the line of cutting teeth, i.e. several teeth come too far forward. Tushes also go to the fore and adjoin corner teeth of upper jaw tightly that leads to their fast abrasion (brygmus). Undershot bite happens due to the big slope of lower incisors or atypical length of the jaw.

Such parameter as bite is very important when Rottweiler is evaluated for the ability of pedigree breeding, because these defaults of Rottweiler’s bite happen to be inherited very often. If Rottweiler has pincers bite the expert committee usually marks down the standard and the dog gets one point less.

Eyes of the dog play an important role in estimation of Rottweiler’s conformance to the breed standard. The eyes must be medium sized, almond- shaped and dark-colored. Eyelids of Rottweiler must tightly fit the eyeballs. Defaults are light color of iris, too big or too deep-set eyes, as well as round shaped or bulging eyes.

Deformities on account of which the Rottweiler can be disqualified are yellow color of the eyes, eyes of different color, eyelids turned in or out. Experts use a special scale-plate of color and pigmentation to estimate whether the eyes of the Rottweiler are compliant with the standard. With the help of this scale one may make the conclusions about fitness of this or that dog for pedigree breeding.

Proper set, arrangement and shape of Rottweiler’s eyes

Color and pigmentation of Rottweiler’s eyes are evaluated by the following scale:

1а – black-brown color;
1б – smoke-grey–brown color with dark shade;
2а – red-brown color;
2б – smoked-brown color;
3а – brown-chestnut color;
3б – brown color with filbert brown shade;
4а – brown-golden color;
4б – whity-brown color with golden shade;
5 – saffron color;
6 – orange color;
7 – yellow color;
8 – yellow-brown color;
9 – light-yellow color;
10 – light yellowness of eye color;
11 – light-blue (turquoise) eye;
12 – light-blue ( glazy) eye;

1а–2б – good level of pigmentation; 3а–4а – average level of pigmentation; 4б–8 – weakened pigmentation; 9–10 – poor pigmentation; 11-12 – zero pigmentation. Only those Rottweilers can be used for pedigree breeding whose eye color corresponds to the items 1а–4а. The Rottweilers whose eye color corresponds to the items 1а–3а are recommended for selection purposes. read this article from the beginning please click on here...
