The dog totally justified the confidence given to it and honorably broke off this combat that was a great failure for blusterous sailors. In fact, could they offer proper resistance to a valiant four-footed fighter, who was noted for uncommon strength, aggressiveness and, moreover, and almost did not respond to pain?

After this happening the breed was again talked about with a large dose of admiration, and interest of cynologists in recovery of the former glory of these wonderful dogs increased considerably. According to accepted standard the preference was given to the representatives of the breed Rottweiler whose hair was black with yellowish and auburn spots. However, certain exclusions to the rule were admitted. Documentary sources of the day run that the dog could have the following color of hair:

“…black streaks against ashen-grey background with yellow color markings, pure red with black nose lobe, dark grey wolfish with black head and cloak, always black marks”.

Besides, provisions of international standard allowed availability of small white spots in the area of chest and paws, the more so as such color variation in the Rottweiler was very prevailing in the beginning of past century. Work of German clubs of dog-fanciers was closely connected with activity of International Rottweiler-club that in 1920-1930s gained a wide fame and popularity in professional dog-breeders and cynologists-admirers. Nevertheless, Rottweilers that were popular at that date, still considerably were other in appearance than modern dogs of this breed.

In 1920s the members of different Kennel clubs still continued to hold rebellious discussions on the features and qualities the breed Rottweiler had to have. In 1921 the event, memorable for dog breeders, took place: all acting Rottweiler-clubs inside Germany teamed up and All-German club originated. This organization is in existence at the present time also.

In 1923, the main requirements relating to Rottweiler standard underwent a certain change. From that time only dogs with dark brown spots on the coat were admitted to the registration. In the ensuing years, even those Rottweilers, which hair was very long according to the pre-set values, did not get official recognition due to nonconformance to the breed standard.
